My husband and I enjoy being in the kitchen cooking and baking. We like to try new things, but also love to cook up our favorites. What we like to do in the kitchen matches our personalities. I need to have some structure, and a plan when it comes to life, therefore baking is more my style. My husband is more of a free spirit. He is much better at going with the flow and that shows in the kitchen. He likes to play with flavor and going off recipe.
We recently got on a kick of RICE BOWLS (or also called Bibimbap. It is an easy quick meal that can be made a head of time. We will make this for supper, and then have it for lunch the next few days. Although we have made a few different versions of rice bowls, our favorite is what I would consider a ground beef version. The best part of rice bowls is that they are completely customizable. You can add what ever you would like in them.
GROUND BEEF RICE BOWL
Ground Beef - Cook up as much as you would like. Once it is browned and drained, we add soy sauce and Ponzu. Sometimes we add some Sweet Chili sauce
Rice - We use Jasmin of Basmati. Once it is cooked, we add some butter and lime zest. It really helps brighten up the whole dish. If you do not have lime zest, that is OK, it is not needed
Vegetables - This is where you can get creative. Use whatever you have in the house. We like carrots sliced really thin, corn and a quick pickled cucumber. Slice up the cucumber, add sugar, salt and some lime juice. Let that sit for a while. I usually try to get this mixed together while the beef is cooking. You can add all kinds of veggies so get creative!
Sauce - This is where most of the flavor comes from, and for us, is a must have! We make a Yum Yum Sauce. Jad makes it, so there really is no recipe. The key is to add the ingredients and just taste it. The man thing is making it not taste like mayo. The ingredients are:
Mayo
Soy Sauce
Garlic powder
Sweet Chili Sauce
Salt and Pepper
Sriracha
Lime Juice
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
