Miss Aurora Mae is 1! Almost a month ago, I was blessed to be able to spend my 33rd birthday celebrating this huge milestone. It was a great weekend spent with family celebrating the past year. I wanted to share with you some details of the weekend, but be sure to take a look at the video below to see a highlight of the party.
Theme: Sweet One
Aurora loves food, especially anything sweet. Her face lights up when she gets a bite (or 10) of ice cream, anything chocolate, but her favorite is creme brûlée. After she has that first bite, her mouth opens up wide and her head slowly leans into the spoon as it approaches her mouth. Then comes the giant smile as she eats it. Because of her love of sweets, we decided on the Sweet One theme. We purchased a decoration pack on amazon and sprinkle table clothes from Dollar General. We even got her the most adorable outfit - Sprinkle bell bottoms and everything. Once our garage was decorated, it sure looked like a sweet place to party!
Food: Cornbread, Bruschetta Pasta Salad, Brisket
I am not sure there was much of a reason behind the food besides is was what Mom and Dad wanted. Aurora does love pasta so we knew we needed something with pasta, so we decided on the Bruschetta Pasta Salad. As for the cornbread and brisket…these are what Jad is known for. Jad spends over 12 hours smoking the brisket to make it just right. We even waited for Aurora to try brisket so her first bite was on that Dad made.
Dessert: Cake/Cupcakes, Creme Brûlée
Of course we had to get a cake for the obligatory cake smash. We decided on a white cake with purple frosting. As for the design, I am a huge fan of drip cakes and sprinkles to go with the theme. Along with the cake, we had red velvet cupcakes (mainly for me since it was my birthday too) and homemade Creme Brûlée. Aurora was not sure what do to with the cake, but sure figured out the Creme Brûlée!
Activities: Corn Hole, Bonfire, Beach, Boat Ride
We celebrated at our house in upper Minnesota. We have a large garage and thought it would be perfect! It was a good thing since it decided to storm. We did the cake smash and presents inside along with playing the first round of corn hole. Once the weather improved, we started a bonfire and moved the corn hole outside. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing around the fire. On Sunday, which happened to be Father's Day, we went over to the cabin resort where my parents were staying to play at the beach. The men went out fishing on Pine Mountain Lake and the woman stayed to play in the water/sand. Aurora even took her first nap on a beach. Of course, Aurora and the ladies went for a boat ride as well before the boat was taken out.
It was a fun weekend celebrating Aurora. I am not sure where the year went, but it has been amazing watching her grow and become her funny, crazy self. I am exited to continue to watch her explore, learn and become who she is suppose to be.
